The problem with typical to-do lists is that just creating a to-do list is not always energizing – but there is a better way.
The RPM method was popularized by writer and motivational speaker Tony Robbins – and stands for Rapid Planning Method, but the acronym also has 3 components that start with RPM as well: ‘Result, Purpose, and Massive Action Plan.’
You begin by forming a result that you’d like to be attained for a particular period of time – let’s say one week.
For instance – I would write on the left side of the paper the 3 keys to the RPM plan – and then fill them in.
“I want this week to result in a gigantic next-level marketing push + complete control and being caught up with existing projects.”
To significantly energize myself, and my team to take our efforts towards visibility and confidence to the next level.
Massive Action Plan:
- Reach out, or delegate reaching out to 100 podcasts
- The first half of Monday – do the hardest client project piece I’ve been putting off.
- For our videos: Add Progress bar to the bottom, big eye-catching title to the top, and spend 30 min on aesthetic thumbnail for Youtube.
- Craft the intro and outro to our new podcast ‘Next Level: Construction Podcast’
- Make time for encouraging team, and training.
Why does this method work well?
I often – ALSO – do a checklist, and review of my calendar around the time I do an RPM planning session, but I like the RPM method because it clarifies the INTENTION I have for the week.
Getting your intention set – and correct – first… is absolutely essential for making sure the rest of your plan is going to ultimately be fulfilling for that period of time.
Getting that result out in the front of the mind, then clarifying the PURPOSE secondly, so that I can be thoughtful about what’s driving me, before setting up the massive action plan – makes sure that when you’re creating the MAP – you’re not confused about why this is important.
At Hook Agency – we talk a lot about 10X-ing our effort so that we don’t come up short, and so the ‘massive action plan’ or MAP works directly in conjunction with that idea. According to Grant Cardone in ‘The 10X Method’ – most people significantly underestimate what it’s going to take to accomplish a particular goal.
Thus, he says – to achieve that goal, you actually should 10X-it – you should multiply the goal by 10, and then plan as if you’d have to take 10 times the amount of effort, and plan accordingly. If you want to win a competition, he’s suggesting you actually need to plan to overwhelm the competition, not just beat them by a slim margin –if you plan with that in mind, you’re much more likely to accomplish it, when the inevitable difficulties arrise.
