What we’re seeing working to rank on ChatGPT + SGE now:
Did you know the people that are ranking on Google and Bing are showing up in ChatGPT too?
If you want to rank on ChatGPT and Google’s A.I., SGE (Search Generative Experience) – first master the basics of SEO, link-building and content marketing. (More below)
- Focus on conversational / question-type content, and utilize social proof throughout your content when possible, for credibility.
- Study what’s currently working on SGE for a particular question, and order your content just like that, complete with statistics or sources to increase authority.
- Here’s a client example below where we used these principles to rank on Google SGE:
1. Answer their questions in detail (with subheadlines) and social proof
SGE and ChatGPT love detailed, human-centric content that solves problems. 72% of marketers say content creation is their most effective SEO tactic—and AI thrives on highly specific answers.
- Example: After we revamped a roofing client’s blog to focus on customer pain points and FAQs, LEADS from organic traffic shot up by 92.98% year over year (in the 2nd year of their SEO services with Hook Agency.)
- If you want to rank for a very specific question – Use the question again in the blog post as a sub-headline, and answer the question in a similar way to the site currently ranking, but provide more detail, with more references and authority. (Google loves confidence, and definitiveness.)
- Pro Tip: Use customer reviews, testimonials, and case studies to weave trust and relevance into your content.
2. A little bit of code goes a long way (incoporate Schema markup)
Google’s AI-driven search rewards structured data that helps it better understand and display your content.
- Fact: Websites using structured data see a 30% increase in organic clicks compared to those without it . (Source: Jemsu)
- Local business schema helps our clients land in the Google Maps 3-Pack more often, driving higher quality leads.
- Pro Tip: Mark up everything from services to FAQs—make it easy for Google’s A.I. to pick up your info.
3. Ideally pair videos with your blog content
Want a winning combo? Mix written, video, and audio content. 93% of marketers say video is a crucial part of their strategy, and AI loves it.
- If you have a blog post that’s ranking really high – create a youtube video for it, and embed that video in the top of the blog post!
- If you have a video that’s doing really well – make a blog (or have your Google-specialized team make a blog) that goes along with the video that’s getting views.
- Pro Tip: Pair YouTube content with blog posts and social media to create a multi-channel marketing machine. The more diverse your content, the better A.I. recognizes it.
If you don’t have a Video marketing team internally – check out Patrick Carr and Blue Collar Media Group, who specialize in roofing and home services, and come out to you every quarter and batch a bunch of videos to use on social and your website.
For instance – we put out videos and social posts around this topic, and thus show up more often when people ask ChatGPT what the best marketing agencies for roofing are 🙂
4. Prioritize E-A-T (Expertise, Authoritativeness, Trustworthiness)
SGE and ChatGPT rank trustworthy, expert content higher. 70% of marketers say improving E-A-T factors (Expertise, Authoritativeness, Trustworthiness) led to better rankings in 2023.
- Example: Make statistics posts like “Homeowners Insurance Claims Statistics (Updated 2024)” – these often get referenced by other sites, leading to Google, Bing (and A.I. because it is partly based on search results) respecting your website more and more. This is part of Expertise, Authoritativeness, and Trustworthiness.
- Pro Tip: Focus on building backlinks from high-authority sources in your niche, like influencers or industry leaders, and show off your expertise through detailed guides. One way you can do this now – get a backlink from an industry directory (like TheRoofersHelper.com in roofing, or HVACUnleashed.com in HVAC)
5. Master Voice Search, Master A.I. Search
Did you know 27% of the global online population uses voice search? SGE and ChatGPT reward conversational, voice-friendly content.
- Fact: Sites optimized for voice search see a 50% increase in engagement from mobile users.
- Pro Tip: Focus on natural language and long-tail, question-based phrases like “What’s the best roofing material in Minnesota?” or “How do I fix a leaky HVAC system?”
