Marketing + IT Jobs

Given how ubiquitous computers are in our day-to-day lives, it is hardly surprising that there are so many fantastic IT-related jobs and careers out there. However, IT is still often perceived as being a rather niche field, and one that is only suited to geeks and tech wizards. But this is not the case, IT is something that businesses of all stripes and varieties are dependent on day-to-day.

Given that IT is a feature of all types of businesses, it makes sense that there are corresponding IT jobs and careers available in just about every industry out there. Businesses are also creating new titles for their IT staff constantly, reflecting the rapidly evolving nature of their work. If you are looking for new career ideas, you should give serious consideration to an IT role.

Similarly, marketing is a field that is always going to be in demand. As long as there are businesses offering products and services to consumers, then there is going to be a need for marketers. It is, much like IT, a solid career choice, and one that has multiple clear paths of progression.

There are numerous roles within both fields that are rapidly on the rise and proving increasingly popular for college graduates and others entering the professional job market.

Marketing + IT Jobs

Digital Marketer

We live in a digital world. The work of a digital marketer spreads over every conceivable platform. As such, it is one of the most varied jobs in marketing that there is. In order to succeed in digital marketing, you will need to be adept at switching between mediums, identifying the best medium for a particular campaign, and knowing which techniques can be applied to which mediums for the best effect.

If you are looking for a role that will not only call upon a wide range of skills but will also teach you and make you proficient in an even greater number, digital marketing is the field for you. Many businesses will employ a number of different marketing staff under a number of different titles.

Sales Representative

Whereas some people have a talent for designing marketing materials, others are natural salespeople. Talented salespeople aren’t necessarily good at marketing – at least not in the way that businesses understand it. The kind of skills that you need in order to sell directly to someone, either face-to-face or over the phone, are very different to the skills that you need to craft a marketing campaign. One approach must be careful and considered, while the other benefits from being more free flow and adaptable.

If you think that you are better at selling directly to people than you are at designing marketing campaigns, or you just prefer working directly with clients rather than with a team of marketers, a sales representative is the perfect role for you. While some people are naturally adept at sales, it is definitely a skill that can be learned if you are motivated.

Media Buyer

Media buyers are an important part of any businessā€™s marketing team. As a media buyer, you would be responsible for working out which are the best media outlets for your business to advertise, and striking the deals necessary to get your advertising published. This is a great role for people that enjoy having to build a relationship with clients, as well as having to negotiate and bring together different businesses and people.

Software Engineering

The software engineering field is rapidly growing and has been for some time. The explosion of mobile apps in recent years has meant that the role of a software engineer has changed radically.Ā  While some software engineers will design and sell their own software, many will work for commission. This means that the software you design will reflect the needs and wants of the market.

Web Developer

Web developer is a pretty self-explanatory role; a web developer writes code for websites. Note that being a web developer is a little different to being a web designer, with the latter being concerned mostly with the aesthetics and function of a website. A web developer has to be someone who either produces more specialized websites or produces web-based apps for website designers.

As Cloud services become more ubiquitous and more capable, the role of a web developer is rapidly expanding. The potential to offer services as cloud-based software is much greater than it’s ever been before. Mobile data networks now cover most of the developed world, and high-speed 4G, and soon 5G, is now relatively mundane.

Network Administrator

Networks are important parts of the infrastructure of many businesses and other organizations. A network administrator is responsible for overseeing the network and ensuring that it continues to run smoothly throughout the day. You can make very good money as a network administrator; while the job requires some relatively specialized knowledge, it is also comparatively easy in many contexts. Obviously, managing large and more complex networks is more difficult. However, managing a network for a small business or similar is relatively straightforward.

Social Media Manager

A social media manager is responsible for managing a businessā€™s social media output. This means managing accounts across a number of platforms, and requires individuals to have a knowledge of the different social media platforms, the nuances, and features of each platform and how they can best be utilized for marketing.

Systems Administrator

The systems administrator is, as the name suggests, responsible for overseeing the entirety of an organizations IT systems. The systems administrator will need to know how to respond to any problems that arise and will need to be able to get systems back online as soon as possible in the eventuality of any downtime.Ā  The role of system administrator can, therefore, be quite a tense one. If you want to work as a systems administrator, you will need to be able to function under pressure.

Both marketing and IT are fields that offer stable and reliable career paths for anyone who is looking to make a long-term investment in their future. If you are in search of a career or considering a change of career, then the jobs listed above are all excellent starting points. You can work in one of these roles in just about any industry you choose.
